Save The Date: Our 2nd Annual Poetry & Literacy Festival will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Elgin Community College. This year's theme is "Writing Down Our Roots." Award-winning poets, Diego Baez and Chasity Gunn will present workshops to families with children and adults. Pushcart Prize winner, Julian Randall, will speak about the influence of his African American and Dominican heritages and how his ancestors gave him a roadmap for Hope. We will end the evening with an Open Mic and Poetry Slam competition judged by former Elgin Poet Laureate, Aron Ryan, poet Ed Heinrich, and educator and documentarian Nick Thompson. There will be raffle prizes, hors d'ouvres, and books for sale, too. Early bird tickets go on sale March 10, 2026. We can't wait to see you there!https://www.elginliteracy.org/upcoming-events
