About this Event

Black High School Debate at Platform Calgary


Join us for the 2nd Annual Black High School Debate hosted by the Calgary Black Chambers and KPMG! This debate competition is designed to empower young Black leaders, foster meaningful discussions and to inspire change.

Whether you are competing or attending as a guest, this event promises an opportunity to witness Black excellence in action. Join us in person on March 6, 2026, to watch our students debate topical issues with the winning student being awarded a paid summer internship with KPMG Calgary and a $5,000 scholarship!

Are you a black Grade 12 student up for a challenge and looking for an opportunity to sharpen your public speaking skills while discussing topics that shape your future? Keep reading for more information on how to apply and the eligibility criteria.



Event Overview:
  • Topic: “Artificial Intelligence and Workplace Equity. Catalyst for Inclusion or Engine of Bias. ” (Debate for and against)
  • Date: March 6, 2026
  • Arrival Time: 4:45 PM (event commences at 5:00pm)
  • Location: Platform Calgary
  • Admission: Free (please register to secure your spot)
  • Audience: Open to all students, educators, and community members
  • Target Participants of the debate: Open to all Black Grade 12 students
  • Prize: Includes the opportunity to win a $5,000 post-secondary scholarship and a six-week summer paid internship at KPMG LLP Calgary office, as well as a $5,000 cash scholarship from the CBC for the runner-up.

Deadline for Application: February 9, 2026 at 11:59pm MST



Event Format:
  • 6 students: 3 for the topic, 3 against
  • Each student will have an opportunity to present their arguments
