Join us for a virtual/in-person talk with Richard Veit, Ph.D., whose work blends anthropology and archaeology to explore the Revolutionary era through the landscapes and material traditions of the Mid Atlantic. His research shows how the region's physical record shaped the world that moved toward war, offering a broader view of the Revolution than any single site can provide.Veit is a professor of anthropology at Monmouth University, where he also serves as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. He holds degrees from Drew University, the College of William and Mary, and the University of Pennsylvania. His work covers Indigenous history, colonial settlements, cemeteries, and early American landscapes, and he has written widely on these subjects, including Digging New Jersey’s Past, New Jersey Cemeteries and Tombstones, and New Jersey: A History of the Garden State. His research has appeared on NPR, in Archaeology Magazine, and at TEDx Navesink. He currently serves as president of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
