As we embrace the heart of winter, Tamborine Mountain is poised to transform into the epicentre of chamber music excellence. From August 22–24, 2025, the 21st SXS Chamber Music Festival—formerly Bangalow Music Festival—returns in spectacular style to its new home at Shambala Estate, offering an unforgettable long-weekend escape for locals and visitors alike. Now under the creative direction of triple Grammy award winning flautist and Festival Director, Tim Munro, Southern Cross Soloists have crafted a vibrant, boundary‑pushing program blending beloved classical works with striking contemporary compositions.
The weekend lineup includes everything from intimate solos and heartfelt duets to boisterous septets and bravura vocal performances—spanning centuries and continents.
Festival highlights include a candlelit recital in the Shambala Chapel featuring Slava and Sharon Grigoryan performing Bach’s Third Cello Suite and luminous new works by Eve Beglarian and Anna Clyne. The much-anticipated grand finale, Fandango, promises to be a joyous climax—complete with Boccherini’s fiery Guitar Quintet and Spanish-inspired repertoire, delivering flair, passion, and fireworks.
More than a concert series, SXS offers a fully immersive retreat: nestled in the Scenic Rim’s cool mountain air, attendees can indulge in award-winning cuisine by Chef Yiani while soaking up the serenity of the Shambala Estate’s lush surrounds with travel times from Brisbane or the Gold Coast of roughly an hour, it’s the perfect accessible cultural pilgrimage.
This year’s festival is more than an arts event—it’s a statement of ambition. After two pandemic years and a bold relocation from its Bangalow roots, SXS is reshaping regional culture in Queensland, magnetising interstate interest and aligning with the upcoming
Brisbane 2032 Cultural Olympiad.
For the Tamborine community, this festival is both a privilege and a call to action: renew your annual ritual, support world-class live music on our doorstep, and introduce friends, family, and neighbours to the enchantment of chamber music. Festival tickets are available
