About this Event
216. Harvesting Stories: Exploring British Columbia's Food and Farming Story Through Storybooks (am)
Facilitator: Holly Johnson is the Education Specialist at BCAITC this school year. Raised on a small berry farm on Vancouver Island, she is ready to share her enthusiasm for food and firsthand agriculture knowledge with teachers across BC. Holly has taught Kindergarten, Grade One, Grade Two, and Grade Four and has worked in independent and public schools in Vanderhoof and in Kelowna. When not helping teachers with the sharing of BC’s Food Story, Holly likes to wrangle her three small children and pursue her new hobby of canning her freshly grown produce.
Do you have a love for local produce? Are you passionate about BC food and enjoy growing your own fruits and vegetables in your garden? Are you looking for simple ways to share this enthusiasm with your students? Look no further than our workshop! This storybook-focused session will provide you with storybook titles, lesson plans, activities, and details about our CALM Literacy Contest. Our goal is to share the narrative of BC's food and farming. Our website features hundreds of free resources for teachers, offering current and accurate information about where our food comes from. Furthermore, we offer a range of growing programs that teachers can apply for—come and discover how to inspire your students about BC food and gardening!
