Expand academic priorities
Pre-service teacher education has focused on traditional methods of instruction that have created the foundation of pedagogy from the 1950s - 2000, but as we’ve transitioned into the 21st century, there's no question that times have changed. The last 20+ years have seen major changes in technology, culture, and globalization — all of which have fast-tracked the need to expand basic academic priorities to move beyond critical thinking.
Examine 21st century skills
Some classroom practices have been slow to shift, which means that while we’re living in the 21st century, we’re often teaching a 20th century curriculum. In order to prepare today's students for tomorrow's changing world, we must explore the benefits of a pedagogy grounded in critical thinking while expanding our understanding of essential skills for the future, including where and why these skills are critical for student success.
Explore the Global Mindset Framework
This course takes a deep dive into the Global Mindset Framework, which provides a blueprint for interacting, teaching, and learning in the 21st century. As we unpack each of the Framework's domains and skills, you'll have space to imagine and integrate ways of teaching these critical capacities with intentionality and connecting them to your instructional goals.
