About this Event
The Maryland Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers (MAFSM) Annual Conference draws attendees from local, state, and federal government as well as the private sector throughout Maryland and even surrounding states. Each year it attracts over 175 engineers, planners, water resource professionals, and NFIP Coordinators.
We will have networking opportunities, vendor exhibits, and a packed agenda with approximately 20 technical presentations. Six (6) CECs from ASFPM are pending for this event .
In addition, we are offering a pre-conference training class on NFIP 101 on November 11.

MAFSM Now Accepting Speaker Abstracts!
MAFSM is seeking abstracts for its November 12 Annual Fall Conference in Linthicum Heights, MD on a range of water resource topics, including stormwater management, flood risk identification and communication, hazard mitigation, climate change resiliency, and more!
Standard speaking slots are for 30 minutes, including time for questions. Submitted abstracts should be 500 words or less, along with a brief speaker's biography of 200 words or less.
For more information or to submit an abstract, please complete this form no later than 6PM ET on August 30.
Speakers will be notified in mid-September, and all speakers are required to register for the conference.
F LOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT PRE-WORKSHOP - November 13, 2024
MAFSM’s Floodplain Management NFIP 101 Training will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Maritime Conference Center (same location as the 20th Annual MAFSM Conference which takes place the day before).
The NFIP 101 Training will cover topics such as the NFIP regulations, community participation in the NFIP, reading and using Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), insurance mitigation, and more. Ben Kaiser of AECOM and Jason Sevanick of WSP will lead the training.
Five (5) Continuing Education Credits from the Association of State Floodplain Managers are pending.
The cost of the training is $95, and breakfast and lunch are provided.
*** Please note that the NFIP 101 Training is not a preparatory course for the CFM exam. Exam and Training registrations are separate. MAFSM is managing the training, while ASFPM manages all CFM exam applications. MAFSM is not proctoring the CFM exam.
MAFSM CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
MAFSM supports the education of its members by offering up to 10 scholarships / association memberships to its Annual Fall Conference. These scholarships are aimed at community officials who would not otherwise have an opportunity to attend and would benefit greatly by implementing lessons learned in their communities.
