About this Event
In the early 21st century the world saw the collapse of democracy. The rise of autocrats in concert with Tech Bros threatened destruction of the planet. Before the tipping point - before THE EVENT - there were many opportunities for people to act. There was still a chance total annihilation could be avoided.
2073 probes our recent past and current events, connecting the dots from 9/11 and 2008 financial crisis to the rise of the authoritarian leaders, the dangers of surveillance, the wealth and power of Silicon Valley Tech Bros, and the world being at once on fire and under water. The timing of this film couldn't be more prescient.
From ASIF KAPADIA and the Academy Award winning team behind SENNA, AMY, and DIEGO MARADONA, 2073 is an epic science-true-fiction thriller which mixes archive, nonfiction and drama, set in a dystopian near-future. The film uses pieces of the past to tell a story of what may be to come.
You are invited to a special screening of 2073 followed by a Q&A with the films Director Asif Kapadia, journalist and co-founder of the Citizens Carole Cadwalladr in conversation with the founder of Byline Times Peter Jukes.
