Join us in celebrating the people who are making significant contributions to the field of history in Washington through writing, teaching, historical projects, and cultural diversity.
The awards ceremony will feature a keynote presentation by historian Dr. Johann N. Neem, professor of history at Western Washington University, who will discuss America at its 250th. Enjoy a reception with appetizers and a bar.
Dr. Johann N. Neem
Dr. Johann N. Neem is a historian of the American Revolution and the early American republic. His most recent book is What’s the Point of College?: Seeking Purpose in an Age of Reform. He is also the author of "Democracy’s Schools: The Rise of Public Education in America," which examines the origins and purposes of American public education between the Revolution and the Civil War.
His first book, "Creating a Nation of Joiners," published by Harvard University Press, examines the development of civil society in Massachusetts after American independence. Neem is Chair and Professor of History at Western Washington University.
He is on the Board of Editors for the 'American Historical Review' and the 'Journal of the Early Republic.'
