Welcome to the 2026 Vaughan World Migratory Bird Day Event!

Join the City of Vaughan and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority at the Maple Nature Reserve to celebrate World MIgratory Bird Day!

On Sunday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., join us for a trail walk where you’ll learn about the importance of migratory birds, the threats they face and how we can help safeguard their habitats.

This family-friendly event will begin with a short introductory talk, followed by a guided trail walk through the beautiful Maple Nature Reserve. You’ll also discover birding tips and find out which bird species you may see or hear in the area.

World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in May, as migratory birds journey to nesting sites. By studying and protecting birds, we can understand the overall health of our ecosystems and the environment.

How to prepare?

This is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine, so please dress for the weather. Wear proper walking shoes and bring a water bottle. You are welcome to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the introductory talk.

The City will supply:

• binoculars (please bring your own if you have, we have limited amount)
• bird identification materials and checklists

• clipboards
• pencils

There are washrooms onsite.

Arriving and Parking

Please use the driveway entrance off Dufferin Street, located at 10401 Dufferin St. and follow the road until you reach the parking lot. The event will begin at the field in front of the parking lot and washroom building.
