Districts of Scouting America (FKA Boy Scouts of America) are hosting a council-wide flag retirement ceremony on Sunday, June 14th, National Flag Day, in multiple locations throughout Central Florida (Times and Locations listed below). Though BSA has historically partnered with local VFWs and other organizations to conduct flag retirement ceremonies, our vision with this event is to conduct a larger, though still somber and reverent, BSA-hosted and community-oriented ceremony. Our goal is to provide education to both our communities as well as the less experienced units in our districts and council, through the efforts of our more experienced units, as to the appropriate time to retire American flags and the proper way to do so.This education should also allow our less experienced units to then take this knowledge with them and hold their own ceremonies local to their communities throughout the year. This event will be entirely led and conducted by our Scouts from multiple units with adult leader supervision. All Scouting Units are invited to attend and participate. This event is also open to the public, who are encouraged to attend as well.
We will hold these ceremonies in two locations:
- Longwood: 10 am at Reiter Park - 311 W. Warren Ave. Longwood, FL. 32750; co-hosted by the City of Longwood, Longwood Leisure Services
- Oviedo: 7 pm at American Legion, Post 243 - 491 W. Broadway St. Oviedo, FL. 32765
