About this Event

For the final event of the 2026 MMIWGT2S+ NYC East Coast Summit, join UIC for a dedicated Community Decompression & Wellness Day offering space for rest, restoration, and collective care. This event is intended to honor the emotional and physical labor of the summit through grounding and wellness practices, creating opportunities for gentle connection without pressure to engage.

The day will feature:

Soft Music, Tea, and Light Refreshments

Wellness Practices: A gentle welcome from the UIC team will be followed by an overview of the day's intention and a gentle grounding practice.

Community Wellness Activities: Facilitated wellness offerings, hosted by Casandra (Cas) Stouder (Diné (Navajo) & Seminole) and Janell Harper (Afro Indigenous Cherokee Nation)

Open Time: Enjoy quiet conversation, journaling, or rest in a comfortable environment with tea and light refreshments.

Allow us to support you through a community care decompression after a full day of critical discussion and learning.

Be sure to wear something comfortable that you can move in.

When the Body Stops Searching the Horizon
Host: Casandra Stouder (Arizona ACEs Consortium)

Info: When the Body Stops Searching the Horizon: Fascia, Kinship Webs, and MMIP Prevention in Lenapehoking: This session explores how fascia, posture, breath, and “horizon scanning” in the body can reveal early signs of danger, dissociation, and targeting long before a relative goes missing. Together we will practice gentle, trauma‑responsive, body‑based tools that help us read these signals without shame and tighten our kinship webs around those most at risk. Participants will leave with simple practices and frameworks they can bring back to families, community spaces, and frontline work.

Info: Breath, Voice & Release – A Trauma-Informed Yin
Yoga Practice for Collective Healing: This 45-minute trauma-informed session integrates breathwork, affirmations, and a gentle Yin Yoga practice to support grounding, nervous system regulation, and embodied awareness. Participants are guided to reconnect with their breath and voice through intentional affirmations, followed by slow grounding postures designed to release tension, restore balance, and support emotional processing in a safe, accessible, and supportive space.
