Liminal Literacy in a Digital World
Join us for the 2026 JASON National Conference (JNC), where educators, leaders, and industry professionals will come together to explore what it means to prepare students for a rapidly changing digital world.
Themed "Liminal Literacy in a Digital World," this year's conference will focus on how schools and communities can bridge the gap between where students are today and the world they will inherit, equipping young people with the confidence, curiosity, and critical skills needed to navigate and shape the systems around them. Liminal Literacy is the ability to navigate "threshold concepts"—ideas that are difficult to grasp but, once understood, fundamentally change your worldview. It requires sitting with the discomfort of not knowing. To bring this idea to life, we look to an unexpected teacher: regenerative soil. Soil exists in a literally liminal state—the living interface between geology and biology, between rock and life. Before it can sustain anything new, it must first pass through decomposition, a period of breakdown and apparent disorder. That messiness isn't failure; it's the condition for growth. In the same way, students must endure the discomfort of confusion before breakthrough, and old ways of thinking must break down before new understanding can take root.
The conference will celebrate the powerful intersection of education, community, and economic opportunity, highlighting how purposeful, literacy-driven learning can create meaningful pathways for all students. Together, we will explore strategies to connect classroom learning to real-world impact, foster digital fluency, and build the kind of communities where people can truly flourish.
Through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops, we will equip educators with the tools and strategies needed to inspire students not just for the world as it is, but for the world they will help build.
