Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) invites students, faculty, staff, and members of the Reno-Sparks community to its 2026 Earth Day Celebration on Thursday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at TMCC’s Dandini Campus. Presented by TMCC’s Sustainability Champions in collaboration with campus and community partnerships, the annual event features hands-on workshops, educational activities, and community experiences designed to inspire environmental stewardship and promote sustainable practices.This year’s celebration embraces the themes “Do It Yourself (DIY)” and the Sun, educating participants to repair, grow, and create items themselves while learning about the Sun’s energy and its role in a sustainable future. TMCC’s Earth Day activities reflect the college’s broader commitment to sustainability, including energy conservation initiatives, waste reduction programs, and outdoor pollinator and native plant projects.
Event Schedule & Highlights
10:00 a.m. –11:30 a.m. – V. James Eardly Student Services Center
● Kickoff: Opening remarks and live music performances.
● Community and Campus Tables: Explore booths hosted by campus and community groups promoting sustainability.
● Patagonia Repairs: On-site repairs for items from any brand; in-house repairs arranged if needed.
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Outdoor Plaza
● Children’s Theater Performances: Theatre Club presents Swan Brother.
● Clothing Exchange & Sun Printing: Bring your unwanted clothes to exchange, refresh, and decorate using sun-printing techniques; extra clothing will be donated to Goodwill.
● Earth Day Essay Contest Readings: Winners read their essays on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
● Goat Meet & Greet: Learn about goats and their role in natural fire suppression.
● Goat-Adjacent Yoga: 15-minute gentle Hatha yoga outdoors with baby goats; no equipment required.
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Countless Dandini Pollinator Garden
● Ladybug & Lacewing Release: Students from the E.L. Cord Child Center release beneficial insects into the pollinator garden.
● Native Planting Activity: Participate in planting native species to support the campus ecosystem.
2026 Earth Day Writing Contest
As part of the celebration, winners of TMCC’s 2026 Earth Day Writing Contest will be recognized. Participants share essays reflecting on sustainability, personal action, and environmental responsibility, with winners announced during the event.
