The 2026 Cupcake Classic is a recreational women's ice hockey tournament running June 6 with three main objectives:
1️⃣ This is a fundraiser to support Dani's team in the Canadian Ball Hockey National Championships this August in the exotic destination of .... Calgary!
2️⃣ An excuse to get out and play some hockey with fun people.
3️⃣ Also an excuse to eat some cupcakes.
Thank you so much for supporting this fundraiser! Dani is once again competing in the Masters 34+ division, because she's a fossil. You may be asking: Dani, why do you want to play a version of hockey where you have to run instead of glide around? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, much like my dusty bones.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Full ice, 5 on 5 (plus goalie)
Teams are capped at 10 skaters plus a goalie
30 mins of ice for each game
Run time
Refereed games
SAWHA league rules, except all minor penalties will be penalty shots
Round-robin games can end in a tie
Semi-final and final games will go to shootout if tied. Same shootout rules as SAWHA playoffs: 3 shooters, then sudden death. No player can shoot a second time before all players on their team have shot.
WHAT'S THE TOURNEY VIBE?
This is first and foremost a FUN tournament. All skill levels are welcome and we want everyone to enjoy themselves! If anyone is being a little too competitive/aggressive, we will have a chat to ask them to chill out. We'll have cupcakes for everyone (athletes need carbs!) and some sports drinks in the dressing rooms.
HOW WILL THE TEAMS BE MADE?
Everyone registers as individual players. Fill out your hockey skill level / experience in the registration form and we will do our best to create 4 balanced teams. We can't guarantee you will be on a team with your friends, but you can put their names in the comments and we will do our best.
WHO CAN PLAY?
Just like SAWHA, if you identify as someone who fits in a women’s ice hockey tourney, you can play! This includes trans and non-binary players :) All skill levels are welcome.
GOALIES
If more than 4 goalies register, we will try to choose those of the most similar skill level to help keep the teams as balanced as possible. If a goalie registers and isn't selected for a team, they will be welcome to play as a skater or offered a refund.
TOURNAMENT COST
$145
Early Bird Bonus: Register by May 25 to be entered in a draw to win prizes!! Choose between a $25 tab at the arena lounge or a fluffy new Cupcake Classic hoodie customized with your player number.
Your registration fee will help cover the ice, referees, cupcakes, drinks and some prizes! The remainder will support the expenses for ball hockey nationals.
