Join the Whangarei Medieval Combat Club and learn to fight with a military Sabre, based on the techniques of British military fencing saber master Charles Roworth. Our beginner course will take you from knowing nothing about sword fighting to being able to spar with synthetic weapons.
Classes are held every Monday night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Pompallier Catholic College Gym. For more advanced members, we also offer a Thursday sparring night.
After completing both the beginner sabre and longsword classes, you'll progress to the intermediate level and start training with steel weapons.
All fitness levels are welcome, and no prior experience is necessary. However, you must be 16 or older to participate. The cost for the eight-week course is $100.
Please wear sporting clothes and covered shoes. We recommend long pants and sleeves for added protection, but in summer, you may get quite hot. Thick leather gloves from hardware stores are suitable for hand protection, although we do provide training weapons and face and head protection.
