About this Event
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE TRAINING FORMAT
The July 2026 AVAA format will combine in-person training with work you will complete on your own. This will include a pretest that MUST be taken before the start of the Academy.
This combination of training styles allows the speakers to spend more time answering questions and applying the knowledge to real world problems. The Academy will total 40 hours of training which makes it eligible for the National Advocate Credentialing Program.
- To keep the interactive nature of the training, the in-person portion will total 36 hours with 4 hours of “pre-work” to be completed before the start of the Academy. This pre-work provides the foundation for the training that will occur during the week. The pretest will measure the attendees knowledge before the training and a posttest must be completed before certificates are awarded.
- By registering for this training, each attendee agrees to complete the necessary work as described above.
- The pre-work will be sent to you on or after 7/10/26 depending on when you register, so register early to ensure the maximum amount of time to complete the work.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE AVAA
The Arizona Victim Assistance Academy (AVAA) is a project of the Arizona Coalition for Victim Services (ACVS) which is a non-profit coalition made up of crime victim service providers. To date, AVAA has trained over 1,000 advocates state-wide.
This Basic Academy provides a rare opportunity to work, study and interact with other victim service providers from around the state. The number of attendees is purposely kept small so that adult learning techniques can be used to reinforce the information received by the instructors.
This Academy is intended to provide fundamental information for all crime victim advocates. The Academy is designed primarily for victim service providers who are new to the field of advocacy with approximately one to three years of experience; however experienced advocates may also find the academy beneficial.
This material is pre-approved by the National Advocate Credentialing Program. For more information see http://www.trynova.org/help-crime-victim/nacp/
The registration includes; lunch each day, except Friday, and all instructional materials and supplies needed for the training .
