自2007年起，香港藝術節與香港中樂團攜手創辦「樂旅中國」系列，以音樂為橋樑，串連中華大地的多元文化風貌，展現不同地域、民族與時代的藝術精粹。今年將演奏盧森堡作曲家馬塞．溫格勒時歷五年所創作的《中華狂想曲》，描繪他對中國文化的熱愛與想像，展現出一種東西合璧的宏大敘事；青年作曲家李博禪的《崑曲三折》，取材自中國崑曲中的三段經典折子戲，透過音色與節奏描摹不同角色神韻。樂團藝術總監兼終身指揮閻惠昌2023年應陝西省廣播電視民族樂團之邀所創作的《線狂》，以陝西合陽縣獨有的提線木偶戲曲「線腔」為素材，及後曾於多地演奏，是次為香港首演。樂團特地從陝西合陽縣線腔木偶劇團，邀請皮弦胡、鼓板懷演奏家王坤來港，以一人之力演奏七種傳統樂器。這種結合現代中樂合奏、地方戲曲、傳統民藝的創作方式，正是「樂旅中國」系列不斷追求突破與對話的最佳體現，故成為本地樂迷每年翹首以待的中樂盛事之一。
Since 2007, the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra have collaborated in an annual “Music About China” series, connecting the diverse cultural landscapes of China, and showcasing the artistic essence of different regions, ethnic groups and historical eras through music. This year, the programme features Luxembourg composer Marcel Wingler’s Chinese Rhapsody. Crafted over five years, the work encapsulates Wingler’s passion and imagination blending Eastern and Western elements. Up-and-coming Chinese composer Li Bochan’s Three Pieces of Kunqu Opera is inspired by classic Kunqu opera excerpts, using timbre and rhythm to characterise different role-types.
Rhapsody of String Puppets by HKCO Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for Life, Yan Huichang, commissioned by the Shaanxi Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra in 2023. Inspired by the string puppet opera (xianqiang) of Heyang County, the piece features pixianhu, drum and clapper virtuoso Wang Kun from the renowned puppet troupe. Wang is a “one-man band” performing seven traditional instruments. This fusion of modern Chinese orchestral music, regional opera and traditional folk art epitomizes the unique pursuit of innovation and dialogue of “Music About China”.
