2025 Verb Benders Grand Poetry Slam Finals
It’s that time of year again!!! After 5 months of qualifying poetry slams, we have made it to the moment we’ve all been waiting for! THE VERB BENDERS GRAND SLAM FINALS!!
Join us January 8th at Scandals Live (3501 Holland Rd #113 Virginia Beach, VA) where the top poets of the season will be competing for a spot on our nationally ranked slam team!
Doors open at 7:00PM, the poetry slam will start promptly at 8:00PM.
The cost is $20. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door!
The rules for this poetry slam are as follows:
All poems have to be original.
There will be 3 rounds.
Scoring will be all 3 rounds cumulative.
No props, music accompaniment or costumes.
Judges will score on a scale of 0.0 - 10.0. We will drop the high and low scores and add the middle 3 to give the poet their score for that round.
Poets have 3 minutes with a 10 second grace period to wow the judges into the highest score they can receive.
For every 10 seconds a poet goes over time, there will be .5 deducted from the final score.
The top 4 poets of this slam will make up our 2025 travel team who will compete at Southern Fried Poetry Slam in Knoxville, TN happening June 11-14!
Early arrival is suggested as the space is going to be PACKED! Plan accordingly! If you have never been to a poetry slam, you are in for a treat! We will see you on January 8th!
