About this Event

The HSS Rehabilitation Hip Preservation Certification was developed for physical therapists to master clinical skills related to non-arthritic hip conditions. Taught by a multidisciplinary team of experts from the world’s #1 in orthopaedics, you will gain proficiency and competency in hip anatomy, biomechanics, examination, soft tissue/manual techniques, surgical precautions, and exercise regimens for patients. Certification will be awarded to clinicians who successfully complete all aspects of the program. The 1-day livestreamed course offers CEU only, no certification. Continuing Education Course Details

1-Day Livestreamed CEU Course Only: January 10, 2025

  • CEU credits for course participation are awarded after the completion of a 10-question post-course knowledge assessment (80% passing score, with unlimited attempts allowed) and program evaluation, available starting on January 13, 2025.
  • Please note that the 1-Day Livestreamed CEU Course will NOT award the Certification.

Additional Requirements for the Hip Preservation Certification

The following course components outline the requirements for Certification:

Foundational on-demand lectures and pre-course knowledge assessment to be completed by January 7, 2025

  • By December 6, 2024, participants will be provided access to required on-demand lectures to be viewed before the live course.
  • On December 13, 2024, access will be granted to a 25-question pre-course knowledge assessment. This must be completed by January 7, 2025 to be permitted to attend the live course (hybrid or onsite). A passing score of 80% will be required, with multiple attempts allowed.

Live Course, Day 1: Onsite at Hospital for Special Surgery or Virtual - January 10, 2025

  • Participation during Day 1 of the live course is required.

Live Course, Day 2: Onsite ONLY: Lab - January 11, 2025

  • Participation onsite is mandatory.

Home Study Period: Course material available for self-study through February 10, 2025

  • Participants will have access to on-demand foundational material from December 6, 2024 through February 10, 2025.
  • Recordings of the live course will be available to participants from January 17, 2025 through February 10, 2025.

Post-course knowledge assessment to be completed between February 11, 2025 - March 4, 2025.

To qualify for the HSS Rehabilitation Hip Preservation Certification, the following must be completed no later than March 4, 2025:

  • A 50-question post-course knowledge assessment with an 80% passing score. Only TWO attempts will be permitted to earn Certification.
  • Program Evaluation

Those who do not pass the post-course knowledge assessment within TWO attempts will only be eligible to receive continuing education credits. They will not be granted Certification.

Certification is valid from March 2025 - March 2030

Target Audience | The Certification is designed for physical therapists.

The 1-Day Livestreamed CEU Only Course is targeted to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and athletic trainers.

Learning Objectives | Hospital for Special Surgery Continuing Education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe key functions of the ligaments, labrum, and capsule of the hip.
  • Identify key elements that are unique to intra-articular, extra-articular, and peri-trochanteric pathologies of the hip.
  • Select the most appropriate imaging technique for patients with hip impingement.
  • Incorporate into practice the special tests used to rule in or out femoral acetabular impingement.
  • Create a treatment plan for rehabilitation following a periacetabular osteotomy.

Additional objectives for certification participants:

  • Integrate neuromuscular reeducation techniques in the plan of care of patients with hip pathology.
  • Demonstrate evidence-based examination techniques to assist in the diagnostic process of hip pain.
  • Employ the evidence for and usage of manual and exercise techniques in treating those with hip pain.
  • Design exercise progressions and regressions for various musculoskeletal pathologies of the hip region.
  • Review the evidence and testing procedures for making return to play decisions for patients following non-operative injury or surgery.

Accreditation and Credit Designation

Physical Therapists: Hospital for Special Surgery is a New York State Education Department approved provider for physical therapy continuing education.

  • Hospital for Special Surgery designates the 1-Day Livestreamed CEU Course One-day for a maximum of 5.5 contact hours.
  • The Certification Tracks (2-Day Hybrid and 2-Day Onsite) are each designated for a maximum of 17 contact hours.

This activity is pending approval in FL and NJ for physical therapy credits.

This activity is provided by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners Accredited Provider 2512063TX and meets continuing competence requirements for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant licensure renewal in Texas.

1-Day Livestreamed CEU Only Course - Athletic Trainers: Hospital for Special Surgery (BOC AP#: P537) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers (ATs). This continuing education program is eligible for a maximum of 5.5 Category A CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

This course is not intended for use by any participants outside the scope of their license or regulation.

It is the licensee’s responsibility to determine approval for their state and discipline due to constantly changing requirements. We would, however, be happy to assist with this process if requested.

1-Day Livestreamed CEU Course: Credit is awarded after a 10 question post-course knowledge assessment and program survey. A passing score of 100% is required, with multiple attempts allowed.

Certification Tracks: Credit is awarded after a 50 question post-course knowledge assessment and program survey. A passing score of 80% is required, with multiple attempts allowed.

Hospital for Special Surgery reserves the right to cancel this course. In the unlikely event the course is cancelled, HSS will issue a full refund of the registration fee, but will not be responsible for any other charges incurred by the registrant due to the cancellation of the course.
