It is again time for the bi-annual whip meet and competition, and we have some great stuff in store this time! In addition to our normal classes, cosplay, and competitions, I am pleased to announce that we will have a whip making competition. Listed below are the requirements for the competition and potential prizes to be given away for the different competitions and games. I hope to see you all there! (If you have a whip related prize you’d like to donate, we wouldn’t turn you down.)Schedule:
10:00am – Event Begins
12:30pm – Lunch (Little Cesar’s Pizza provided by Taylor Whips)
1:30pm – Whip Cracking Competitions
7:00pm – Event Ends
7:30pm – Group Dinner @ King’s Buffet in Taylorsville, UT
Whip Cracking Competitions: Speed and Accuracy, Can Cutting Quickdraw, Single Hand Freestyle, Two Hand Freestyle. The rules for these are the same as in previous years, and will be linked in the event page. Unlike previous years, the single hand freestyle event will have a novice and an expert category, so those who are not as experienced as some competitors (*cough* *cough* *Danny Shaw* *cough*), will have a chance to come away with an award. Each event will have a first, second, and third place award certificate, as well as other prizes where prizes are available to give. (The additional prizes might just be a Snickers bar, tbh)
Whip Making Competition: Where this is the first time that our meet-up will have this event, the rules are a little, um, vague… but we will get it ironed out. What we have so far is that the whip has to have been made within the last 12 months and it will be judged based on appearance and cracking performance. The scoring system will be made available as soon as we have a more concrete system in place. Any whip maker is welcome to enter their whip, as well as anyone who wants to enter a whip they recently obtained from another maker. I look forward to seeing the excellent craftsmanship displayed in these tools and giving adequate praise and recognition of the efforts that went into them.
