After an extended hiatus that began with the pandemic in 2020, the Bulgarian Folk Music & Dance Seminar in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, is back for 2025! The website is now complete and online registration for the Seminar is open: http://www.folkseminarplovdiv.net/
This Seminar, first established in 2005, offers a very special experience for non-Bulgarians (and Bulgarians interested in connecting with their "roots" music and dance) who want a more in-depth opportunity to learn traditional instruments, singing styles, and dance than is normally possible for groups or individuals traveling to Bulgaria. This rich and unique program, taking place at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, blends the skills of professional teachers with the traditional music and dance wisdom of tradition bearers from around Bulgaria. The dance program, in particular, features different groups of dancers and musicians throughout the week, teaching dances from their own villages/regions.
The Seminar ends just before the Koprivshtitsa festival begins, and a chartered bus from Plovdiv to Koprivshtitsa will be available for Seminar attendees the morning of Thursday, August 7th.

През лятото на 2005 г. група ентусиасти от България и САЩ създадохме за първи път международен летен фолклорен семинар, в който въведохме нов метод за преподаване на богатата българска традиция. До сега любителите на музикално-танцовата ни култура нямаха лесно осъществим достъп до самия неин извор – талантливите изпълнители от различните фолклорни региони, отдалечени от по-големите градове, в лицето на певци, инструменталисти и танцьори. Академията за музикално, танцово и изобразително изкуство „Проф. Асен Диамандиев“ – Пловдив (АМТИИ) ни подаде ръка и отвори залите си, за да може фолклорният ни семинар да достигне до всички, обичащи българския фолклор
Развихме нов преподавателски метод, при който танцовия, песенен и музикален фолклор на дадено село се поднася на студента, което елиминира необходимостта студентът да издирва същия самостоятелно. Изградихме колоритна програма, при която опитът на професионални преподаватели се комбинира с духа на селските майстори-танцьори от страната. До момента в България няма подобна програма, съсредоточаваща носителите на традицията на едно място в продължение на една седмица. Хора на възраст между 7 и 70 са участвали в семинара в досегашните му издания, представящи 14 различни държави.
