About this Event
The public is cordially invited to attend the annual Mayor's Holiday Tree Lighting at Haymarket Square. As part of our annual event, we have a lighted parade that the public is welcome to enter.
Staging will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the City parking lot located at 5th Street and Seneca. You must be in line by 5 p.m. to participate in the parade. Parade begins at 5:30 p.m.
Parade Route - The parade route will begin at 5th Street and Seneca, move south to Delaware then west on Delaware to 7th Street, then south on 7th Street to Cherokee, then east on Cherokee to Haymarket Square. (Map attached below).
Parade Entry - If you would like to enter a float for the parade, please complete the registration form. Businesses, groups, and individuals are encouraged to participate in this free event sponsored by the City of Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department. Our theme this year and for years to come will simply be "The Holidays".
Entry Guidelines:
- We encourage every entry to be lighted. Battery-operated lights or glow sticks may be purchased at many variety stores.
- The use of holiday music is also encouraged.
- Please do NOT include a person dressed as Santa or Mrs. Claus in your entry. They are riding in a separate float from the City, and we are not sure Santa's magic can accommodate riding in two floats at once.
- Participants are welcome to display the name of a business or organization.
- Applicants do not need to be a resident of Leavenworth to participate.
- This is a holiday parade and children are especially encouraged to participate. All entries 12-years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
- Floats must be safely constructed. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to ride on the float unless accompanied by an adult. If children 12 and under are riding on a float, then a minimum of two adults must walk beside the float at all times, on on each side.
- No one (regardless of age) shall be allowed to ride on a float with their arms or legs hanging over the side.
- City ordinance prohibits any candy, gum, or other items from being thrown, tossed, or otherwise distributed from vehicles in the parade. If any parade participant violates the above, they are subject to immediate removal. Candy may be handed out by people walking with the float.
- Flyers, business cards, or paper advertising may not be handed out.
- Each float/entry must keep up with the entry ahead to avoid gaps in the parade.
- Entries including animals are responsible for waste clean-up.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
Entering your information to register for the parade means you have read, fully understand, and agree to abide by the above guidelines. If you are unable to attend, please email [email protected] so we may pull your entry from the list.
We look forward to seeing everyone there! Be safe and have a wonderful holiday!
