The Energy Capital Startup Challenge is our platform to bring innovative ideas to life. We’re seeking startups with the potential to drive economic growth and employment opportunities. This is an opportunity to gain exposure, connect with industry leaders, and make a meaningful impact. Open to residents of Campbell, Crook, Weston, Sheridan and Johnson counties.
Five finalists will Pitch their businesses on Dec. 4, where they will compete for the $50,000 seed fund established for the event. Three winners will emerge from the five finalists, and they will split the seed fund based on specific capital needs. Each winner will get $5,000 on Pitch Night, and the remaining $35,000 will be allocated in a follow-up review that will happen in February 2025.
The five finalists in the 2024 Start-Up Challenge include:
Inflatrix: Gillette’s Mark Thoreson has created a device designed to reduce the time, discomfort, and difficulty of placing dental fillings in back teeth during dental procedures. He also was a finalist in the 2023 Start-Up Challenge.
Power Theory: Isaac Almejo-Ponce and Luke Macy of Crook County have developed predictive energy software that reads, stores, analyzes, and presents building energy data that can help reduce energy consumption.
Root to Shoot: Sheridan’s Nathan Roma has created a microgreens farm that provides year-round fresh produce while realizing a reduction in water and electricity usage over traditional farming methods.
The Blind Wrench: Adam and Briar Feist, from Sheridan, have developed a mobile mechanic service providing customer site repairs on small engine, power sport equipment, automobiles, and trailers.
White Hat: Dan Knievel and Nick Boltin of Gillette have launched a managed security service provider business that specializes in ransomware protection and incident response services for companies in critical infrastructure and high-risk sectors.
