The Datuk Cup Badminton Open, inspired by Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei, provides a platform for badminton enthusiasts to showcase their skills and passion. Lee, a former world No. 1 for a record 349 weeks, is celebrated for his dedication and perseverance. His legacy inspires players to strive for excellence on the court.
What does the title "Datuk" mean?
"Datuk" is an honorific title awarded by Malaysian royalty, similar to a knighthood, recognizing individuals for their significant contributions to the country. Datuk Lee Chong Wei holds this title as a testament to his achievements and status as a national hero.
About the Organizers
This event is organized by the Malaysian Association of Canada (MAC) Youth Team, a dynamic group of young leaders dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, community engagement, and leadership within the Canadian-Malaysian community.

Registration & Deadlines:
Early Bird Registrations: September 2nd - September 22nd, 2024
Standard Registrations: September 22nd - Oct 12th, 2024
Draw Release: October 15th, 2024 (Registration will close October 12th or when the limit is reached)
Withdrawal before the registration is closed (Oct 12th) will be partially refunded via E-Transfer (less admin fee of $25). All entries are FINAL as of the entry deadline.
Withdrawal after registration is closed cannot be refunded.
Entries are not final until both players have paid
Players under 18 must register with full guardian contact information. All players must be at least 14 years old on the tournament day. Organizers may request ID verification.

Pricing:
Early-bird (Before September 22nd): $45/per person
Regular: $55/per person
2nd Events: Additional $25 per person
EACH PLAYER WILL NEED TO SUBMIT THEIR OWN REGISTRATION.
One Black Aeroplane will be provided per game, players are to supply additional tournament grade shuttles as needed.

Match Rules & Important Notes:
Failure to report control desk within 10 minutes when matches are called will be disqualified. (We will try our best to reach you)
Standard BWF Rules & Regulations apply.
Best of 3 games, rally points system to 21 per set (cap at 30).
2 minutes warm-up on the first call, 1 minute break at 11 points, 2 minutes between sets.
All finals will be played immediately after the semi-finals.
Players are to officiate their own games, and Control Desk's decision is final.

By registering, participants assume all risks, damages, and losses during the tournament. All attendees (both players and spectators) permit photographs and video to be taken for public use and promotion of the Malaysian Association of Canada and their affiliates. Players under 18 must sign in with a guardian or parent. All players must be at least 14 years old to participate.
