About this Event
Bring your class to Common Good for a unique opportunity to see an urban farm in action!
Field trip topics include: plant needs, composting, vegetable harvesting, insects and pollinators, food justice and nutrition. Field trips can be tailored to specific class requests and the material covered meets DCPS standards. Students are engaged in physical activity on the farm in order to reinforce learning. Tasks and activities will differ for different age groups. Field trips are 1.5 hours long and are held from late March through early November.
Preferred timing is 9:30-11 am but you can select a different morning start time during registration check out. If you are interested in a time not available on the registration page, please email us and we will do our best to accommodate your group. We can take a maximum group of 30 students per field trip. For a larger group, or to bring 2 classes on the same day, we offer a split field trip option where 1 group will be on the farm and the other group will be in the adjacent park playground with school chaperones and then they will switch.
In order to increase accessibility, we are able to offer our field trips for free for any DC public and public charter schools and DC Title 1 schools. If your group is not a school, but the majority of your students attend schools that fit in these categories you can still qualify for a free field trip.
If you do not qualify for a free field trip, our fee is $200 per visit and registration allows for several payment options, including having us send an invoice.
Schools are responsible for arranging their own transport to the farm, which is accessible via Metro (Shaw-Howard stop) and several Metro bus routes.
For any questions, or if you wish to discuss your school's specific needs, please contact [email protected]
To schedule a field trip, check the drop down list of dates on this event, if the date is available, it will allow you to complete the registration form. If you would like to schedule a field trip on a date that is already booked or outside of our regularly scheduled field trips, please contact us at [email protected] and we will do our best to accommodate you!
FAQs
My program/ camp/ club isn't associated with a specific school, how do I know if we qualify for a free field trip?
We are happy to take groups from summer camps and other organizations that may not be a traditional classroom. We can work with your group details to assess an appropriate fee or whether you may qualify for a free field trip.
Do you take field trips on dates that are not listed?
We are happy to work with you to find other date and time options. Due to other programming on the farm, this is not always possible but we will try to make it work. Reach out to [email protected] to check our schedule.
What is the rain/ bad weather policy?
If weather conditions are dangerous, then we will cancel and do our best to find a time that works for both groups to reschedule. Otherwise, we will defer to the group on whether they would like to come in the predicted weather or aim to reschedule.
