*Endorsed by the Royal Australian & New Zealand College Psychiatrists & PACFA
*A Yoga Australia Approved Training Course
BIYOME has collaborated with The Signs of Life Psychology to offer a Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT) training course that is crafted in alignment with emerging Australian standards. As dedicated course providers, we adhere to current Australian guidelines, ensuring a commitment to the safe, ethical, and efficacious integration of psychedelic-assisted therapy. The course was formed in response to the rescheduling of MDMA and psilocybin as a peak multidisciplinary body for psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) in Australia. Australia is in the process of establishing national standards for Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) credentialing. BIYOME and The Signs of Life Psychology will continue to offer professional development and ongoing learning options to ensure our course keeps up to date with requirements.
Our extensive course not only meets the emerging Australian standards but also plays a proactive role in meeting the increasing training demand for authorised prescribers of psychedelic-assisted therapy. BIYOME is utilising the most up-to-date research, clinical and community practice regarding what fundamental education for PAT administrators, therapists, and facilitators involves.
Our mission is grounded in the safe integration of psychedelic-assisted therapy into mental health care to alleviate persistent mental health challenges. These challenges not only impose significant financial burdens on the healthcare system but also deeply impact individuals and their families throughout their lives.
In both Australia and on a global scale, there is a dynamic and expanding body of research in the field of psychedelic science. The potential of psychedelic therapy is particularly promising in addressing chronic conditions that affect a large segment of the population and could serve to alleviate the strain on healthcare resources.
As of July 1, 2023, authorised psychiatrists in Australia can legally access products containing 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) for the treatment of traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression. This decision reflects research showing MDMA has demonstrated efficacy in addressing post-traumatic stress disorder, while psilocybin shows promise in treating individuals with treatment-resistant depression.
Moreover, ongoing studies are delving into the capacity of MDMA and psilocybin to address recovery from addiction and psilocybin to assist in the treatment of pain disorders, eating disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. These newer investigations continue to expand, offering promising avenues for expanding the therapeutic applications of psychedelics, reinforcing their potential to bring about transformative changes in mental health and overall well-being.
Join us in shaping the future of mental health through accredited education and responsible practice.
Facilitators from The Signs of Life Psychology, namely Dr. Lani Roy and Melissa Warner, will provide comprehensive training in PAT skills and will be supported by a range of leading academics, psychiatrists and clinicians in the space.
Dr Alana (Lani) Roy, Founder of The Signs of Life Psychology, is a psychologist, social worker, and therapist with extensive experience in mental health, suicide prevention, trauma, sexual abuse, family violence, and the disability sector. Lani provides Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) for clients accessing ketamine treatment in Australia and is actively engaged in research trials focusing on psilocybin, empathogens, and Ayahuasca at Swinburne University. Specialising in complex trauma, disabilities, and dual diagnosis, Lani provides therapy in Auslan sign language for the Deaf community. She provides a range of educational and group-based psychedelic programs and is a board-approved psychology supervisor. Lani coordinates the psychedelic and plant medicine Mental Health Professional Network (MHPN) and has taught on Australian psychedelic programs. Lani has completed psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy Training and is now extending this model to work from a Psychedelic Integrative Somatic approach, incorporating metacognitive and transpersonal domains. She is also the Australian chapter leader for the American Association for Psychedelic Medicines.
Melissa Warner is the Secretary of Psychedelic Research in Science and Medicine (PRISM), a pioneering Australian research charity where she helps advance research and science communication on psychedelics. She is also a neuroscience and psychology Research Fellow at Swinburne University, where she collaborates on psilocybin, 5-MeO-DMT, and virtual reality (VR) research. Melissa is a co-director of the Cyberdelic Society and Cyberdelic Labs, an extended-reality platform where she is an experience designer for virtual meditation adventures designed to train metacognition, mindset and mindfulness. She is designing research to explore the benefits of VR meditation before and after psychedelic-assisted therapy. Melissa also supports individuals as a meditation teacher at Signs of Life Psychology sharing her practice of meditation and coaching of 6+ years. In 2016, Melissa was a co-founder of The Australian Psychedelic Society, a grass-roots cultural hub. As a scientist, educator, futurist, and artist Melissa seeks to nurture the capacities of creativity, relationality and potentiality in herself and her community.
Melissa and Lani have designed educational training in psychedelic-assisted therapy for a number of local and international training institutions in the last four years. Melissa and Lani’s experience demonstrates immense passion, energy, capacity, and expertise in the psychedelic field. Lani and Melissa, along with the BIYOME team and our guest lecturers, are excited to share this offering of education, experience and community for the first time in 2024.
