Become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider)!
This in-person event will occur at Deaf Cultural Centre, 100 Ladywood Rd, Birmingham, B16 8SZ. On-site parking and walking distance of Five Ways Rail Station.
Starting at 9:15 AM and ending at 5:00 PM each day.
The two-day course takes place in a relaxed and supportive environment where each person is encouraged to learn and explore topics related to mental health and well-being. The primary focus of the course is to provide participants with the confidence and knowledge to support others, while also equipping them with tools to improve their own mental well-being.
The MHFA programme is practiced worldwide and certification is recognised in over 25 countries. The training is evidence-based, grounded in research and designed to be easily digested and incredibly thought-provoking.
Topics covered include: Depression, Anxiety disorders, Bipolar disorder, Eating disorders, self-harm and Schizophrenia
We also explore suicide and crisis intervention. Crucially, we discuss self-care and the boundaries of the MHFAider® role.
Learners will gain:
- Recognise those who may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention.
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other support.
- Practise active listening and empathy.
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma.
All course materials provided: Detailed workbook to keep, Digital manual, MHFA England lanyard, and Certification.
Upon completing the two-day MHFA course learners become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®) and join a community of over five million people worldwide who have trained in MHFA skills.
Learners will also receive:
- A hard copy workbook to support their learning throughout the course.
- A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it after completing the course.
- A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan.
- A digital MHFAider® certificate .
- Access to the MHFAider Support App® for three years.
