About this Event
1" Storybook Chair: A Quiet Moment in Miniature
In this 3-hour workshop, participants create a one-inch scale storybook chair vignette inspired by a favorite tale. Beginning with a pre-made miniature chair, students learn 1:12 finishing techniques, including layered paint, controlled distressing, and subtle aging. They construct a small handmade book, focusing on proportion, scale illusion, and surface detail.
The scene is set on a textured grassy base, with methods for building realistic terrain using simple techniques. Added elements—such as botanical growth, clay mushrooms, ivy, and optional soft furnishings—create a quiet narrative moment.
While guided, each piece is individual. Participants may interpret their story freely and include small personal items. By the end, each leaves with a completed, display-ready miniature emphasizing storytelling through finish, composition, and restraint.
each student kit includes: small chair wood base, book making material for one small book, extra books, leaves, turf, dust terrain, butterflys.
