About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable performance by the actors of the Hungarian National Theater commemorating the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956 organized by the Liszt Institute New York in co-operation with the Hungarian House of New York taking place on October 24, 2025 at 6:30PM at the Hungarian House of New York.
Four actors from Hungary’s National Theatre present a special commemorative performance honoring the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
This literary program centers on the moral choices and acts of courage made by Hungarian actors during the revolution. From Imre Sinkovits and Iván Darvas to Éva Szörényi and other members of the National Theatre ensemble, many prominent figures of the Hungarian stage took part in the resistance against the communist regime.
After the Soviet army crushed the revolution, each faced a crossroads — to remain in Hungary under repression or to flee abroad, many finding refuge in the United States. Their stories, marked by sacrifice, exile, and resilience, reflect the diverse fates of Hungarian artists in 1956 — different decisions, different destinies, one shared legacy.
