🦃Why run on a track, when you can run through history?
The Statesboro 5K Turkey Trot allows you to run, trot, or walk through history as you pass historic buildings, charming homes, the new City of Statesboro Art Park, and beautiful sculptures along the Willie McTell Trail. If you're a nature lover, you will enjoy searching for the six unique tree species along the route. You can even bring your friendly fur baby, or real babies, as you'll see families with strollers and red wagons, plus runners of all speeds. There is no excuse to sit on that couch because some of our trotters are in their nineties.
🦃Why We Trot
The Statesboro 5K Turkey Trot raises funds for the Bulloch County Foundation for Public Education, which supports innovative grants for teachers, scholarships for REACH Georgia Scholars, and awards for outstanding teachers and students.
Since 2006, more than $385,625 has been invested in more than 300 innovation grants for classroom teachers to enhance student learning.
Since 2013 the Foundation has been the sole underwriting sponsor for the Bulloch County REACH Georgia Scholarship Program for eligible eighth-grade students. The Foundation provides the annual seed capital to ensure that the district's selected scholars, now totaling 62, receive a $10,000 college scholarship upon graduation and successful completion of the program. To date the Foundation has invested $85,000 in this endeavor, which has helped make college possible for graduates, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.
Since 2009, the Foundation has provided $21,750 in monetary awards to Bulloch County Schools' district-level and school-level teachers of the year.
The Foundation is also the underwriting sponsor of the Bulloch County STAR Student/STAR Teacher program for participating public and private high schools.
