April is Earth Month and multiple agencies are collaborating throughout Wood County to provide events geared toward conservation, education, and family fun! The 14th Annual Community Earth Day Celebration will be the culminating event held on Sunday, April 19th, from 2:00-4:00 PM (rain or shine). This free family event is open to all and is filled with fun hands-on learning stations.The Montessori School of Bowling Green, located at 515 Sand Ridge Road, provides an ideal backdrop for this Earth Day Celebration! Enjoy 14 acres of land and spend some time at the Black Swamp Preserve and Slippery Elm Trail while attending the event.
Plant a seed with BGSU or take home a tree from BG SONG. Learn about dragonflies with the Bowling Green Parks & Rec Department, learn about trees with the City’s Urban Forester, and give the Wood County Park District’s giant Earth Ball a roll.
Explore the City’s Electric Division, Public Works Department and Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection Division trucks to see how they help keep our environment clean, clear and our homes powered!
Interactive games will be provided by the Wood County Solid Waste District, Northwestern Water & Sewer District, and others. The Ohio EPA, BGSU Environmental Students and Montessori School of Bowling Green will host informative, hands-on learning stations.
Come early, bring your bike, and enjoy a slow roll along the Slippery Elm Bike Trail with the Bowling Green Bicycle Safety Commission and the Wood County Park District’s Craig Spicer. This ride will be full of fun and nature facts. Halfway through this ride, at the Portage Rd. intersection of the Slippery Elm Trail, there will be a bike maintenance presentation. This ride will begin in the Montessori School Parking Lot at 12:30 PM. Riders must wear a helmet. Halfway through the ride, learn bike maintenance with BGSU.
Throughout the event, three, 20-minute presentations will take place! Get to know more about plants with the Wood County Park District at 2:15 PM, dive deeper into water systems with Ohio EPA at 2:45 PM, and learn more about planting trees with the City’s Urban Forester 3:15 PM! The sessions will be held at each organization’s respective display areas. These presentations will share valuable information for young attendees and old, so don’t miss your chance to learn more.
