About this Event
The Healing Center's 13th annual NYC Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walk is a city-wide event that brings together hundreds of students, community residents, schools, nonprofit organizations, and elected officials to take a stand against sexual and dating violence, which affect 19% of teens nationwide.
The event kicks off with an opening rally featuring performances and speeches by survivors, youth, advocates, elected officials, and parents. We then march across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, chant against the violence among youth, and conclude after crossing with a closing rally in front of New York City Hall.
The Healing Center, the event organizer, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to the intervention and prevention of family violence, abuse, and sexual assault, serving people of diverse faiths, cultures, and personal experiences. We offer direct services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence including supportive counseling, informational and practical assistance, and referrals. We also offer educational workshops and organize community events to raise awareness about abuse and create a safer world.
The NYC Teen Dating Violence Awareness Walk is co-sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Day One, CONNECT, Safe Horizon, YWCA Brooklyn, Womankind, Violence Intervention Program (VIP), Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, NYC Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, the Office of Council Member Alexa Avilés, the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, Release Wellness NYC, and New York City Teens Connection.
