About this Event

The Chief Minister’s Governance Lecture connects the ACT’s history with current topics through newly released ACT Government archival records. Established in 2015, the Lecture invites a distinguished researcher each year to explore a topic of public significance using records opened under the Territory Records Act 2002. These records, released 20 years after their creation, offer fresh insights into the governance of the ACT.

This year’s lecture, titled “Let’s Play!”, celebrates the 20th Australian Masters Games held in Canberra in October 2025, and reflects on the 9th Games, which were hosted in Canberra in 2003. The theme explores how sport promotes identity, inclusion, and community wellbeing..

Dr Catherine Ordway, an internationally recognised sport lawyer and expert in sports integrity, will deliver the keynote. Dr Ordway’s career spans governance, gender equality, and athlete protection, including her pivotal role in resettling Afghanistan’s national women’s cricket team.

A panel discussion will follow, focusing on sport’s power to unite people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

The discussion will be followed by networking and refreshments.
