About this Event
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
Each year on the last Saturday of the month we invite men of all ages and backgrounds to participate in K.A.V.A. Talks Annual Heels 2 Heal 1 Mile Walk in high heels to raise awareness and funds for victims and survivors of Domestic Violence.
This year will be our 10th hosting this community event!
K.A.V.A. Talks is a peer support and education group that was started by and for Pacific Islander men. K.A.V.A. stands for Knowledge Above Violence Always. The men who participate in this group actively combat cultural and societal behaviors and beliefs that are rooted in violence and educate themselves on better ways to improve their own understanding on the issues that affect our community and being better allies.
Domestic Violence affects each and every community and doesn't discriminate when it comes to victims, though this walk, due to being organized by our K.A.V.A. Talks men, is focused on showing support towards women, children, and other marginalized idenities who have suffered under Domestic Violence.
Join us on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 12PM in the International Peace Gardens to show support for all those affected by this issue that plagues all communities. Heels or no heals all are encouraged to participate. Wear purple!
You can bring your pets, walk as a family, or even as a business or organization to help us raise money for relief and direct services for our community members in need as well as connect individuals to the resources available like food, housing, employment, victim funding, etc.
All proceeds raised go towards our victim advocacy programming that directly assists victims, survivors and their families, with a focus on our Pacific Islander population.
