1066 Country Walk Day Two Battle to Pevensey
THIS IS A RAMBLERS MEMBERS ONLY EVENT WITH BOOKING REQUIRED
Following in the footsteps of William the Conqueror and his army from 1066, Ashford Ramblers are walking the 1066 Country Walk (1066CW) over two days, with the second day starting at Battle.
In its entirety, the 1066CW is advertised as 31 miles in length, but allowing for inevitable extra bits, we will most likely be walking approximately 16-miles per day or thereabouts. It is therefore up to the participant, to ensure the distance, pace & ascent is within their own capabilities, whilst being a linear walk, there are no shortcuts on either day.
It is anticipated that walkers will travel from Ashford by train, the sensible option therefore is to stay overnight in Battle, if walking either day, then there is a station at Battle, approximately a 10 minute walk from Battle Abbey. However Battle Station is on a different train line than Rye, so you will need to change trains for the journey back to Rye Station. Also, if walking only the second day, train timings may not work well.
This wonderful East Sussex route takes us over rolling hills, ancient woodlands & historic towns, with great views throughout. In brief on day day two, after leaving Battle Abbey the 1066CW heads to Catsfield, through Eight Acre Wood, Steven's Crouch and the delightfully named Brownbread Street, whilst also passing close to Herstmonceux Castle.
The finish of the 1066CW, is beside Pevensey Castle, however Pevensey & Westham Station is about a 15-minute walk away, to add a bit more mileage on to the total!
Please contact the walk leader by Wednesday 8th July to confirm your attendance on the walk, whether it be both days, or just the first or second day, there is also the option to drop out after day one if you've had enough!
Sorry no dogs on this one
