On the 11th January 2025, 2pm at The Hub overlooking Birnbeck Pier, The Birnbeck Regeneration Trust and Friends of the Old Pier would like to invite the community to celebrate the future of our graceful old lady. It will be a decade to the day since Hazel Pegram organised a wake for Birnbeck Pier due to the apathy by the then owners to restore our amazing Pier.
This wake brought together the community and a new group of people with a vision to revitalise the "Birnbeck Regeneration Trust" which the late Charles McCann had valiantly kept alive, ensuring that the charity status remained.
Over the past 10 years the Trust have overcome many challenges. From attempting to work with the previous private owner, CNM Estates, interviews with Historic England to ensure we were a credible body to drive the campaign and then driving together North Somerset Council, Historic England and the RNLI to facilitate the CPO and secure grant funding to ensure the restoration could commence.
The project has already completed stabilisation work on the mainland and island and we now look forward to land buildings and bridge restoration starting shortly, with the mainland opening towards the end of the year.
Now is the time to get behind Birnbeck and support our beloved Pier as a community and nationally to ensure that we can keep the funding coming in order to ensure the site is sustainable and never falls back into a state of disrepair.
We look forward to having the best heritage visitor attraction in the South West.
