10th Muharram ul Haram, "Youm-e-Ashura".Fasting on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram is deeply significant in Islam. It commemorates the rescue of Prophet Musa AS & his people from Pharaoh's tyranny. Prophet Muhammad PBUH emphasized fasting on this day, hoping it would expiate the sins of the previous year (Sahih Muslim). He also recommended fasting an additional day -either the 9th or 11th of Muharram, to differentiate from the Jewish practice (Sahih Muslim).
