Create a stunning blend of art and science in our Cyanotype Coaster Workshop ☀️🌿In this class, you’ll design a set of four ceramic coasters using real foliage and flowers. After arranging your botanical compositions, you’ll apply a light-sensitive solution and expose your pieces to sunlight. Like magic, the areas exposed to light will develop into rich blue tones, while the covered areas stay light—capturing beautiful, one-of-a-kind silhouettes in a classic cyanotype style.
Once your designs are developed, you’ll rinse and dry your coasters, then finish them with a protective clear coat so they’re ready to use at home. While the coasters will not be fired in our kilns, you will leave them in our studio for a few days so the clear coat can cure completely.
What is cyanotype?
Cyanotype is an early photographic process that uses sunlight to create deep blue, high-contrast images. Traditionally used on paper to capture silhouettes of objects like plants and lace, this technique translates beautifully onto ceramics, allowing you to preserve natural forms in a unique and functional way.
No experience needed, just bring your creativity and enjoy the process of making something truly special! Pre-registration is required, spots are limited!
