Lineup:
Ronnie Stone (NYC) masterfully bridges the past and future with his unique brand of contemporary synth-pop that seamlessly blends nostalgia with the cutting-edge of modern dance music. The NYC-based producer and multi-instrumentalist writes and records all of his music, utilizing a massive arsenal of 80's synthesizers to cook up dance-pop gold for the freaks and loners.
His latest album, Ride Again (Feeltrip Records), is the culmination of a decade spent dwelling in the shadows at nightclubs and warehouse parties. Inspired by the solace and epiphanies he found on the dance floor, he blends New Wave with the groovy and persistent infectiousness of Techno and House.
Since the inception of the project in 2014, Ronnie has built up a loyal following in the NYC scene. Ronnie and his performance bandmate, Rosa Luna, are passionate about creating and immersive environment in which to showcase their art and music. Their fogged-out spaces and intricate light show act as a portal into Ronnie's retro-dystopian nightclub fantasy. Emerging from the haze in full leather, Ronnie takes the stage as if every nightclub was a packed stadium.
Dutch Experts:
Born out of the Covid pandemic amidst the crumbling of societal infrastructure, Dutch Experts is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Hannah Hoffman. Turning one of her lowest and most challenging points into a revisitation of her approach to her sound, Hoffman began experimenting with layering synths and electronic drum beats in Garageband, creating a sonic landscape that bore the fruits of Dutch Experts and the creation of a debut EP, ‘Bound by This’. Inspired by her personal challenges, the gothic landscape of The Cure, and melodic choices informed by Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins, Hoffman locked into a sound that became uniquely modern with an 80s sonic sensibility - a place where classic new wave, synth pop and the darker edges of pop music converge.
Clock Serum:
Western Mass-based electronic musician Clock Serum’s Contrast EP is four-on-the-floor body music with muscle and incessant energy—a collection of four tracks that embrace dramatic, driving percussion and volatile vocals by producer Andrew Wang. Side A begins with “Ghost”’s tenacious EBM bassline that creates a forceful headiness in contrast to elegant synth pads that lift the track from its filthiness. “Contrast,” the lead single, takes its vivacity from the likes of analog heroes Crash Course in Science with bouncy percussive elements. Wang’s punk-influenced vocals are the focus: “Put myself through hell, does it help?” he asks. “Who do I tell when you fall?”
Side B introduces “Fall Away,” a track that reveals melancholy emotion. Here, intertwining synths crash over a bassline barely tamed by the softness of its stirring melodies. Contrast ends with “Trench,” armored with industrial drums that are ideal for grimy, poorly lit clubs. It’s grungy and bleak—just the way EBM should be. Clock Serum redefines the genre for himself, in the depths of the Contrast EP. It’s tough as nails dance music but the kind that’s unafraid to show glimpses of sensitivity, a passion that can’t be harbored for too long.
