Join the Green Country Group for our May monthly meeting! We will have snacks and drinks starting at 6pm! May’s program will cover an important topic for our environment: the proposed Inola Aluminum Smelter! The new plant is proposed to be built within 5 miles of Inola’s community and is expected to produce 750,000 tons of aluminum per year (press release source). We will have speakers Brian Hill and Marcy McKinley discussing the environmental and community concerns.
Brian Hill is a dedicated local landowner and a steward of a 130-acre farm neighboring the proposed site of the largest new U.S. aluminum smelter in more than 50 years. As one of three directors of Stop the Inola Smelter, a registered 501(c)(4) advocacy organization, Brian helps
lead citizen mobilization efforts opposing unchecked industrial expansion in the region.
Marcy McKinley is a retired Math, Art, and English teacher, who now operates an online antiques and collectibles shop. Originally from New Mexico, she moved here along with her adult children and their families in 2022. Marcy loves Oklahoma and was completely astonished that Governer Stitt would allow a smelter here. As part of Stop the Inola Smelter, she is now putting her talents and energy towards educating Green Country about the broader environmental impacts of such a factory.
