This April, the Lafayette Park Conservancy will host a special Weekend for the Trees in Lafayette Park—a community-centered celebration aligned with Arbor Day and dedicated to strengthening the ecological health and long-term sustainability of St. Louis’ oldest public park.
On April 11–12, neighbors, families, volunteers, and conservation partners will gather for two unique experiences:
🌱 Saturday, April 11th at 10am: Tree‑Planting Blitz
A hands-on volunteer effort to plant 20+ new trees throughout Lafayette Park. This initiative directly contributes to a more resilient urban canopy, improved air quality, shade equity, and a healthier park ecosystem for generations to come.
Pre-registration to volunteer is appreciated! Sign up here: https://signup.com/go/PetQNeF
Meet at the Park House (2023 Lafayette Ave, St. Louis, MO 63104) and bring gloves, shovel, rake, or wheelbarrow if you are able!
🌿 Sunday, April 12th at 2pm: Walking Tour & Talk with Dr. Kate Farley
Meet the trees of Lafayette Park! Join Missouri Botanical Garden scientist (and Lafayette Square resident) Kate Farley for a springtime walk around Lafayette Park. You’ll learn how to identify some of the most common tree species we have in the Park, and will learn some interesting facts about their ecology and traditional uses. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!
Kate Farley is an ethnobotanist with the William L. Brown Center for Economic Botany at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Her research focuses on the role of plants in human cultures around the world, and has done research in Madagascar, Indonesia, and here in the United States. Kate has a PhD in cultural anthropology from WashU and has lived in Lafayette Square since 2004.
Meet at the Park House at 2pm.
The event is free, but advanced registration is encouraged: https://donorbox.org/events/911474
