(NL) Voor de intussen zevende editie van Jazz Meets Symphonic van Brussels Philharmonic komt het Deense multitalent Jakob Bro naar DE SINGEL.
Bro staat bekend om zijn minimalistische, maar emotioneel geladen gitaarspel. Hij gaat aan de slag om een nieuw werk te componeren voor orkest, kamerkoor en zijn eigen trio, met saxofonist Mark Turner en percussionist Midori Takada. Turner laat zich opmerken met zijn gesofisticeerde harmonische en ritmische klanktaal, terwijl Takada minimalistische percussie en klanklandschappen brengt. Het mag overigens niet verbazen dat Bro vroeg om het Radiokoor toe te voegen aan zijn muzikale bouwstenen voor dit project: ‘Veel van mijn muziek is opgebouwd rond melodieën. Mijn composities zijn bijna als een lied,’ zegt hij zelf. Inspiratie haalt hij bij de levendige en speelse schilderijen van landgenoot Tal R. De samenwerking met Opiate, een elektronisch project rond melodieuze techno, voegt een bijzondere extra laag toe.
Zo voegt Bro zich bij een indrukwekkende lijst artiesten zoals Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen, Tigran Hamasyan, Uri Caine, Bill Frisell en Craig Taborn.
(EN) For what will be the seventh edition of Jazz Meets Symphonic from the Brussels Philharmonic, the multi-talented Dane Jakob Bro is coming to DE SINGEL.
Bro is renowned for his minimalist yet emotionally charged guitar playing. He is set to compose a new work for orchestra, chamber choir, and his own trio, featuring Mark Turner and percussionist Midori Takada. Turner stands out with his sophisticated harmonic and rhythmic musical language, while Takada contributes minimalist percussion and soundscapes. It is no surprise that Bro asked to add the Radio Choir to his musical building blocks for this project: ‘Much of my music is built around melodies. My compositions are almost like a song,’ he says. He draws inspiration from the vibrant and playful paintings of his compatriot Tal R. The collaboration with Opiate, an electronic project centred around melodic techno, adds a remarkable extra layer.
Bro thus joins an impressive roster of artists including Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen, Tigran Hamasyan, Uri Caine, Bill Frisell, and Craig Taborn.
