Start your Christmas with a host of sparkling choral gems arranged for
upper voices. Serenata bring you traditional and modern classics, alongside old favourites and carols, including works by John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Eric
Whitaker, Edmund Jolliffe, Andrew Parnell, John Tavener, Praetorius and others, in celebration of the festive season. What better way to give a warm welcome to the spirit of Christmas!
Serenata is a vibrant choir of 25 experienced female singers, drawn from
across the East of England who perform music arranged for three or more
female voice parts. Serenata is dedicated to presenting the rich heritage of
women’s vocal music in an uncompromising yet approachable fashion. Directed by their talented conductor Andrew Foxley and with sensitive accompaniment
from Richard Carr, the singers have a passion for singing and share with their
audiences a rich mix of styles and eras of music.
Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and
currently there is no cure. Anyone can get Parkinson’s, young or old. In the UK,
around 153,000 people are already living with Parkinson’s. Every hour, 2 more
people are diagnosed – around 18,000 a year; 1 in 37 people alive today will be
diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime. The national charity, Parkinson’s
UK, aims to improve services by funding specialist Parkinson's nurses and
therapists, and by pushing for integrated multidisciplinary care for everyone.
The Cambridge branch of Parkinson’s UK offers information, advice and
support, and arranges social gatherings, which allow both those living with
Parkinson’s and their carers to share their concerns, experiences and anxieties.
Exercise is a crucial element in the management of the condition, and in slowing
its progression; alongside Active with Parkinson’s Cambs, eight tailored weekly
exercise activities are offered locally. Members help to raise funds to support the work of the Branch, and to contribute to the ongoing search for a cure.
