Rough Cut Revolutions is the brand-new scratch night at ARC Stockton. It’s part of ARC’s Production Hub, in partnership with Tees Valley Combined Authority – helping to make Tees Valley an engine room of creative production.
It’s an opportunity for you to come and enjoy brand-new work from our region’s most exciting talent in comedy, music, spoken-word, dance and theatre, and little 53 year old me will be one of them.
Well, that’s not strictly true. Actor, Viv Wiggins, will be doing all the hard work.
So, what’s my piece about? Well, it’s one of several comedic monologues from a show I’m writing about older women called, Invisible.
Believe it or not, Invisible Woman Syndrome, is a recognised social phenomenon. It’s where us older women feel overlooked, irrelevant, or ignored in social and professional settings. We feel under pressure to conform to look a certain way or risk losing our feminine worth and simply disappear into the shadows.
Invisible, is about giving a voice to older, working-class women. Our bits maybe heading south, our faces a tad creased, but we’ve seen life, grabbed it by the balls and now we want to share our stories with you.
‘Judy is a 44-year-old, die-hard Jilly Cooper fan who’s been ‘sort of’ happily married to maths teacher, Howard, for 25 years. To some, she has the perfect life, but a fortnight in Cala Bona every year can’t make up for a lifetime of unfulfillment in the bedroom department, but then she meets her very own Rupert Campbell-Black.’
It’s a ‘Pay What You Decide’ event, meaning that you can book tickets for free in advance and pay only after the show (cash or card) based on what you feel the scratch night was worth.
Tickets are available from the box office or from https://arconline.co.uk/whats-on/rough-cut-revolutions-april/
So, if you’re at a loose end on Thursday 30th April, and your hair doesn’t need washing, please come and support me!
