A sweeping look at Jazz, a true American art form.
“Jazz” explores the history of the music and its people throughout its development in African American culture, telling the tale of its rise to prominescence through the 1920's to the mid 1940s, the emergence of Swing and its decline before the rise of other vital Jazz sub-genres.
Award winning cinematographer Ken Burns teams up with prolific musician Wynton Marsalis and profound African American historian Gerald Early to provide an insightful and culturally conscious look into this unique art form.
🔶 "What is Jazz" is a Rhythm Hoppers project, led by Vassia Panagiοtou with members George Margaritis and Leandros Mavrokefalos, aiming to explore the culture of jazz beyond traditional classroom instruction.
Through open discussions, screenings and lectures the project invites all members of the community to delve deeper and explore what is Jazz, what is there to learn from it and how to give back.
🔸 What is Jazz / Movie Nights” are curated screenings of classic movies, soundies or documentaries that serve as a cinematic journey through the evolution of this iconic musical genre. Our screenings provide a vibrant platform for in-depth exploration, discussion, and appreciation of Jazz's multifaceted legacy. Each session begins with a brief presentation highlighting the film's significance and spotlighting the featured artists, followed by an engaging open discussion.

Δημιουργήσαμε τους Rhythm Hoppers το 2013 με σκοπό να διαδώσουμε τους Αφροαμερικάνικους Jazz χορούς, Authentic Jazz Dance και Lindy Hop, στην Ελλάδα και διεθνώς. Με σεβασμό προς την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά και τους δημιουργούς αυτών των χορών, φιλοδοξούμε να δημιουργήσουμε έναν χώρο που προάγει την Jazz κουλτούρα, εστιάζοντας στη ρυθμικότητα, τον αυτοσχεδιασμό, την ελευθερία έκφρασης, την ομαδικότητα και τη συμπερίληψη.
Σήμερα, η βασική ομάδα μας αποτελείται από τη Βάσια Παναγιώτου, τον Αυγουστίνο Τραν, τη Βασιλική Παπαδοπούλου και τον Αλέξανδρο Βελέντζα. Με αφοσίωση και πάθος, προσεγγίζουμε αυτούς τους χορούς όχι μόνο ως τεχνική, αλλά ως μέρος μιας πλούσιας πολιτιστικής παράδοσης, αναγνωρίζοντας την ιστορική και κοινωνική τους σημασία.
