We invite you to take part in a thoughtful Anzac Day walk at the stunning Hanging Rock! This delightful 1.8-km loop trail near Woodend, Victoria, is a gentle and well-loved route that should take around 31 minutes to enjoy. Just a quick note: we won’t be hiking up the hill to check out the rock formations since those trails aren’t suitable for dogs.
Cultural Significance:
Hanging Rock holds deep cultural significance as it sits on the boundary of the Wurundjeri, Taungurong, and Dja Dja Wurrung lands. It was a meeting place for ceremonies for over 26,000 years before colonisation. This site offers an opportunity to reflect on the Indigenous history and acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land.
🌱 Be Respectful: When visiting this culturally sensitive site, please be mindful of its history and use this time for reflection, remembering, and learning.
Important Note: While Hanging Rock is famously linked to Joan Lindsay’s novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, it is crucial to prioritise the recognition of its rich Indigenous history over fictional stories.
