WHAT? ποΈ
An 8 course series, bi-weekly in early 2025, Thursday evenings (pending) to learn all about backcountry camping.
From gear, including backpack fitting, sleeping system, footwear, water filtration systems and navigation (this one will be fun)... We will cover everything you need to know to head outside, for any length of overnighter, in the backcountry.
We will also have a group camping weekend to graduate/celebrate the completion of the course π₯³
WHO (is it for)? π₯Ύ
If you want to start camping outside and don't know where to start or have done it a few times but feels like it should be more enjoyable with more knowledge or if you are uncomfortable going out on your own and want to make friends who are on the same boat, this is for you.
We will cover all the basics, so this is aimed at beginners with zero to little experience.
WHO (is giving the class)? π©π»βπ«
Hi! My name is NoΓ©mie and I will be hosting these classes. It all started in 2012 when my college offered Backcountry Hiking as a PE option. Count me in. I have been hiking, camping, and rock climbing for all the years since but I have also been an outdoor guide along the way. I own Island Trails Ecotours, where we guide people from all over the world on Vancouver Island Adventures while providing ecosystem-based knowledge to educate visitors. I am also a member of a local Search and Rescue Group and so I spend probably 80% of my time outdoors.
WHY? π€·π»ββοΈ
I wanted to offer these classes because, especially in this age of online shopping, it is hard to know what's what and I thought this might create a little community where we can exchange knowledge and learn together.
HOW MUCH? πΈ
The meet and greet will be free of charge for anyone curious about the classes.
If you register for the course before the meet and greet of the day of, you will get 10% off the total cost π₯³
There will be some snacks (you know there will be GORP trail mix) and refreshments, and we will have time to answer all the questions you may have before registering.
The full program will be $450 per person with an additional optional Remote 1st Aid class (price will be determined by how many people sign up).
(With the 10%off you pay $405)
If you are already convinced you can purchase the whole course here https://talesontrails.ca/product/backcountry-camping-workshops/ but you should definitely still come to the meet and greet (there will be free goodies β¨).
When registering for the event, please let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
See you there! βΊοΈ
