🌊Join us and celebrate World Wetlands Day* at Windermere Bay in Claremont, and experience the magic, ecology, flora and fauna of our wetlands with guest speaker Dr Vishnu Prahalad, senior lecturer at UTAS. During a walk and talk, we will explore and learn about many different aspects of the wetlands, the new restoration project underway, and its benefits (including for mental health and wellbeing). As part of our wander through the wetlands, we will also observe local bird species, wetland plants, and look out for any fish returning to the restored wetlands!
🚶This is a great opportunity to learn more about the local area and the many benefits of our wonderful timtumili minanya (Derwent River), in a relaxed setting where all your questions are welcome. You will learn something new, and see this area with fresh eyes!
🫖Stay on afterwards for a complimentary morning tea.
🆓Free event, all welcome!
👖Please ensure you wear sun-smart clothing (long pants and sleeves), fully enclosed shoes suitable for walking, and a hat. Please bring a pair of binoculars if you can, for birdwatching. Please also bring your own drinking water.
❓If you have a question about this event or if you'd like to register a group of volunteers, please message Janine Young, Project Officer: [email protected].
* World Wetlands Day raises awareness about the importance of wetlands, which are vital ecosystems that provide essential services such as water filtration, flood control, and support for biodiversity. The date marks the adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971, emphasising the need for conservation and sustainable use of these critical environments.
