Mr. He Shan was born in Guangzhou, China. In his childhood, he received enlightenment and guidance in painting and calligraphy from teachers Li Wei and Jian Jinxing in Guangzhou. He immigrated to the United States as a teenager for further studies and work. Later, he continued his exploration of painting and calligraphy under the guidance of teachers Zheng Yuyi, Li Yuan, and Zhu Yunlan. Subsequently, he received valuable advice from teachers such as Zheng Shiyi, Chen Ruikang, and Zheng Sansheng.

In order to inherit the teaching spirit of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, since 2003, he has been teaching Chinese language at the Xiansheng Rongtang Chinese School in Chinatown. Later on, he extended his teaching to the Madison Community Center, Hua Ying Music Academy, Oriental Art Gallery, and the Brooklyn Huace Association.
